What is Shortcuts??

It’s part of the Mac OS operating system, so it’s free!! It’s a successor to Automator, which still exists but is expected to be phased out over time. It enables you to perform simple and more complex tasks with little or no programming experience.

Use the Shortcuts app to access Voice Control on your Mac.

I use the Voice Control function on my Mac particularly if I’m dictating an initial draft of a document. The voice recognition to text is very good. However, to open Voice Control requires you to go down quite a few levels in the menu system. You need to go into System Preferences; then into Accessibility and then into Voice Control remembering to tick the Enable box. The easy way is to use a shortcut which I have set up in my menu bar and is created using the Shortcuts app. One click and Voice Control opens immediately. Click again and it is closed down.

Add travel time to diary entries.

Every time that I book a golf round online I get a diary notification which I click and add to my calendar. However, the default diary entry is simply for one hour. I have to take account of the time it takes me to get to the course, setting up time and the time that it will take me to get home. If the diary entry in question contains a particular word, which it does in relation to one of the specific competitions I play in every week, it automatically extends the diary entry to cover traveling time both ways.

Watermark PDFs with Automator.

It’s easy to put a watermark onto a PDF document using a couple of keystrokes – no hassle. I do it using Automator which is part of the Apple OS. Watch the video to see how easy it is.  We can help you to set up Automator to add any watermark of your choice to any of your PDFs.

Shortcuts for Evernote.

I have a shortcut which I use every time I want to open a new note in Evernote, the popular not taking application. No need to find the app and open a new note. A single click on a menu bar icon and the new note is ready for use.
