Deleting Two Factor Authentication Codes in iOS 17

What is the Issue

2FA codes are a really useful way of helping us to keep our personal data secure. However, they do stick around and clog up our iPhones and iPads. Well, worry no more because with the recent release of iOS 17 Apple has introduced a new feature which will allow you to automatically delete the messages containing those pesky 2FA codes.

How to Enable the New Feature

When you receive your first SMS verification code on your iOS 17 iPhone, an immediate prompt should ask if you want to enable the “Automatic Deletion of Verification Codes post-usage”. Alternatively, this feature can be activated by navigating to Settings > Passwords > Password Options. Simply toggle the switch adjacent to “Cleanup Automatically.”

With these simple steps, your setup is complete and ready to roll! 😁

What if you Need to Find a Deleted Code

If you need to find a used 2FA code after its automatic deletion, select “Edit” in the upper left corner of the Messages app, followed by “Show Recently Deleted.”
